Proclamation on Women’s Equality Day

suffrage-456x218At its meeting on August 23 the County Executive Committee unanimously passed this resolution recognizing Women’s Equality Day.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Congress designated August 26th as Women’s Equality Day in 1971; and,

WHEREAS, the Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified on August 18, 1920, giving women the right to vote; and

WHEREAS, The Democratic Party has taken the lead to nominate the very first major party candidate for President of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton; and

WHEREAS, the Collin County Democratic Party fully supports women’s rights; therefore be it

RESOLVED that the Collin County Democratic Party recognizes August 26th as a significant day in history and that on Tuesday November 8th, Election Day 2016, we encourage the wearing of white as political statement of support for women’s rights for those who chose to vote on Election Day, 2016.
