Wylie Students to Lead Inaugural March: “Hate Fears Love”
WYLIE, Texas – Organized Students of Wylie (OSW), a new student-led activist group, will host its first official march and protest on Monday, February 16, from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The event, titled “Hate Fears Love,” will begin at the Rita & Truett Smith Public Library and conclude at Olde City Park in Wylie.

In their own words, the students are organizing because they recognize “that our voices can carry weight far beyond just the classroom.” The march is dedicated to “the protection and rights of all minority groups threatened by the silent complicity of this town for MAGA’s cruel administration.”

The organization’s founding principle is clear: “Equality is not optional, justice is not negotiable, and safety is not a privilege reserved for a few. When members of our community feel unheard or unprotected, then we will step up.”

The Collin County Democratic Party (CCDP) fully supports this march and strongly affirms the First Amendment rights of all people to peacefully protest and speak out against the actions of the current Federal Administration. The party stands in solidarity with the young leaders of Wylie who are exercising their constitutional rights to demand accountability and justice.

Participants will gather at the library starting at 4:00 PM, with the march stepping off at 4:30 PM. Organizers have planned two different routes to the final destination at Olde City Park, allowing participants to choose their preferred path. Community members are encouraged to line the routes in a show of solidarity.

Danielle Alvarez, a lead organizer with OSW, emphasized that this event is just the beginning. “Our goal is not only to organize just this single march, but to build a lasting platform for youth activism,” the group stated. They welcome constructive feedback and ideas from all who participate or support from afar, viewing growth as a collaborative process with the community.
