The full resolution is below:

Title: Resolution on Reaffirming the Texas Democratic Party’s Commitment to Disavowing Any Association Whatsoever with Hate Groups, Antisemitic and Islamophobic Individuals or Organizations

Whereas, there has been a significant and alarming increase in antisemitic incidents in the United States, with the Anti-Defamation League recording 312 incidents between October 7 and October 23, 2023, a stark increase from the 64 incidents in the same period in 2022, and a 388% increase in such incidents in the month following October 7, 2023, compared to 2022, with an average of nearly 28 incidents a day; this trend includes the year 2022 witnessing the highest number of antisemitic incidents since 1979, totaling 3,697 cases of assault, harassment, and vandalism, including a nearly 1,000-percent increase in the daily average of violent messages mentioning Jews and Israel in white supremacist and right-wing extremist channels and a rise of antisemitic incidents in Texas in recent years, noting an 89% increase of incidents in 2022 from 2021 levels;

Whereas, the Council on American-Islamic Relations recently noted the unprecedented rise in anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Palestinian hate in Texas, citing a 104% increase in the city of Houston alone within the past two months;

Whereas, on May 6, 2023, a gunman who expressed virulent racism against Muslim and Jewish people opened fire in a mall parking lot in Allen, TX, killing eight people and wounding seven more, in only one of the most recent examples of violence in our state perpetrated by white supremacists and influenced by radical racist ideology;

Whereas, the Republican Party of Texas is widely recognized as having a long history of tolerating radical racists who espouse the ideals of white supremacy, antisemitism, and Islamophobia;

Whereas, Nick Fuentes, who has called for a “holy war” against Jews and has made a series of widely publicized racist statements, was recently hosted by leaders of Defend Texas Liberty, a political action committee with close ties to the Republican Party of Texas that is funded by far-right billionaires Farris and Dan Wilks;

Whereas, the Republican Party of Texas and its leaders have repeatedly ignored calls to denounce Islamophobia;

Whereas, on December 2, 2023, the State Republican Executive Committee voted against a measure stating that the Republican Party of Texas would “have no association whatsoever with any individual or organization that is known to espouse antisemitism, pro-Nazi sympathies, or Holocaust denial”; and

Whereas, the Texas Democratic Party firmly believes in the principles of justice, equality, and respective treatment of all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, or background, and will continue to stand against hatred, violence, and harmful rhetoric in our state and across the country; Now, Therefore, Be It

Resolved that the Texas Democratic Party:

  1. will have no association whatsoever with any individual or organization that is known to espouse antisemitism, pro-Nazi sympathies, or Holocaust denial;
  2. will have no association whatsoever with any individual or organization that is known to espouse Islamophobic, xenophobic, or white supremacist ideologies;
  3. commits to fostering an environment of inclusion and understanding, rejecting and calling out divisive and harmful rhetoric that targets any community, including the Jewish and Muslim communities
  4. calls on the State Republican Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Texas to join the Texas Democratic Party in taking a stand against hatred violence, and harmful rhetoric against the Jewish and Muslim communities.
