Collin County Democratic Party Chair Condemns GOP’s Unfair Redistricting, Calls for Fair Representation and Public Action

McKinney, TX (July 22, 2025) — Jeremy Sutka, Chair of the Collin County Democratic Party, issued the following statement in response to Texas Republicans’ latest congressional redistricting efforts, which continue to dilute the voices of voters and undermine democratic principles:

“Once again, Texas Republicans have weaponized redistricting to silence growing communities of color and suppress competitive elections. Their latest attempt is a blatant power grab, designed to override the will of voters and protect partisan interests at the expense of fair representation. Texas is one of the fastest-growing and most diverse states in the nation, yet the GOP’s gerrymandered districts will split our communities, to minimize the impact of Democratic and minority voters. This is not governance it’s manipulation.”

The courts have repeatedly ruled that Texas Republicans engaged in intentional discrimination in their redistricting schemes, yet they persist in undermining our democracy. We demand:

  • An end to racial and partisan gerrymandering that fractures our communities.
  • Transparent, independent redistricting to ensure every Texan’s vote counts.
  • Accountability for lawmakers who prioritize political survival over fair representation.

Now is the time for Texans to make their voices heard. We urge Collin County residents to:

  • Submit public comments opposing unfair maps (details here).
  • Testify in person at the redistricting hearing on July 28 at UT Arlington (details here).

Democrats in Collin County and across Texas will keep fighting for equitable maps that reflect the people – not the politicians. Together, we can demand a democracy that works for all.
