Collin County Democrats Vow to Defend HD70, Reelect Rep. Mihaela Plesa
Collin County, TX — The Collin County Democratic Party has issued a bold declaration to protect House District 70 from the influence of Governor Greg Abbott and out-of-state special interests who believe they can buy the voice of our community with big money. Despite being outspent, local Democrats are confident in their ability to outwork their opponents and reelect Rep. Mihaela Plesa, a tireless advocate for public education, healthcare, and women’s rights.
“Governor Abbott and his special interest allies think they can flood our community with money and drown out our voice,” said Michael Tijerina, Fundraising and Communications Chair and Precinct Chair #107 of the Collin County Democratic Party. “But they’ve underestimated the strength and resolve of the people in HD70. We’re not just going to fight to keep this seat—we’re going to win it, because our commitment to this community runs deeper than their pockets.”
Rep. Mihaela Plesa, a first-term representative and lifelong Texan, has been a steadfast champion for the people of Collin County. Her record speaks for itself: she authored 141 bills, co-authored 93, and successfully pushed for the passage of 90 bills she sponsored, alongside securing a $6.2 million increase in Early Childhood Intervention funding. Her work in public health, responsible gun control, reproductive health, and public education has earned her the title of “Freshman of the Year” from the Texas Legislative Study Group.
“Mihaela Plesa isn’t just a representative; she’s our voice and our advocate,” Tijerina continued. “She’s fought to reduce harmful recapture payments on our schools, expand women’s rights, and ensure healthcare access for all. Her dedication to Collin County is unmatched, and that’s why we must reelect her to continue this critical work.”
Rep. Plesa’s roots run deep in Texas. A product of Plano ISD, she grew up experiencing the promise of the Texas Miracle, a commitment to freedom and opportunity. Her parents, first-generation Romanian immigrants, fled Soviet communism to find a new life in Texas, and Mihaela has carried their legacy of resilience into her public service.
“This isn’t just an election; it’s a defense of our values, our community, and our future,” said Tijerina. “Mihaela Plesa is the only fighter in this race who’s proven she will stand up for us against the extremism and big money trying to take over Texas. We may be outspent, but we will never be outworked. Together, we will reelect Rep. Plesa and keep HD70 in the hands of someone who genuinely cares about our community.”
