Democrats encourage attendance at Self town hall

COLLIN COUNTY (Feb. 27, 2025) Citing the undeniable value of physically connecting with their constituencies, Jeremy Sutka, Chair of the Collin County Democratic Party, salutes Congressman Keith Self for scheduling a town hall meeting in his home district.

Self has scheduled “Koffee with Keith” on Saturday, March 1 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Collin College Conference Center Wylie, 391 Country Club Road in Wylie.
“Being physically present and listening to the people whom he represents is incredibly important,” said Sutka. “These town hall meetings provide an opportunity for residents of his congressional district, as well as others in the area, to ask questions, obtain answers, and hear the rationale for what many people believe are highly questionable and controversial voting decisions.”

Self has been an unabashed supporter of Trump administration policies, and has consistently voted for legislation that strips away many of the vital services provided for and legally mandated by the government. Among the many examples of his unwavering support of such polarizing legislation are his support of the DOGE dismantling of congressionally approved programs, his votes for and active support of strict anti-abortion legislation, the inhumane treatment of immigrants, and he has encouraged the defunding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He has voiced strong support for the elimination of many critically-important social safety net programs like Medicaid, food stamps, and USAID.

“Voters should be able to ask Mr. Self about his votes and, most importantly, why he cast those votes,” added Sutka. “Our democracy depends on the principle of representative government, and when we send people to Washington as our representatives, we have the right and the duty to hold them accountable.”

Sutka emphasized that town hall meetings are indispensable whether the representative is a Democrat or Republican. It is the only time that working people have an opportunity to speak directly to their representative.

“We encourage all voters in Collin County, regardless of their party affiliation, to attend the town hall, and be vocal,” he added. “It’s our duty as citizens of our country to ensure that our voices are heard.”
