County Democratic Chair sounds call for ‘good trouble’
COLLIN COUNTY (March 3, 2025) With an emphasis on the long-held American tradition of holding elected officials accountable for their words and actions, the Collin County Democratic Party is expressing gratitude to the hundreds of voters who attended and actively participated in the “Koffee with Keith” town hall hosted by Rep. Keith Self in Wylie on Saturday, March 1.
“I commend the constituents, including Democrats and grassroots advocates, who attended Rep. Keith Self’s town hall to hold him accountable through tough, respectful questions,” said Jeremy Sutka, Collin County Democratic Party Chair. “Peaceful protest and civic engagement are the cornerstones of democracy, and we will always defend the right of Texans to demand transparency from their representatives—even when it causes ‘good trouble.'”
Town hall attendees numbered hundreds inside the meeting room, while dozens of people were present outside the venue holding signs. Attendees were enthusiastically vocal in expressing their feelings on the representative’s usual far right votes, comments, and support of activities that do not align with the community’s sentiments. Loud and boisterous comments often drowned out the representative as he desperately tried to defend his actions in Washington.
“Unfortunately, Rep. Self has consistently aligned himself with Donald Trump’s agenda, including harmful policies toward Ukraine and reckless efforts to undermine the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),” added Sutka. “While I have little hope he will suddenly break from this pattern, the energy of engaged constituents proves that accountability matters. We will continue advocating for democracy, diplomacy, and economic policies that prioritize people over politics.”
Sutka urged congressional members from both sides of the aisle to speak up for all Americans who seek justice, humanity, and compassion. “Voters elected Rep. Self and others to safeguard democratic values and effective governance—not to dismantle critical institutions under DOGE or cater to the whims of unelected figures,” he said.
“Public servants must answer to their constituents, not to partisan agendas and unconstitutionally appointed influencers.”
